The nuclear waste site in Sellafield, England, poses the largest threat to life and health in Norway, Scandinavia and Europe in general. The enormous facility that employ about 13.000 workers has for many years tried to reprocess the nuclear waste that nuclear power stations deliver from all over the world. So far the achievement of reprocessing has been unsuccessful. Sellafield has encountered many set back and incidents with varied consequences. The last encounter was the 1st April this year when they lost the cooling system for about 4 hours. An incident they reported to us in Neptun, as impossible, the very same week. The consequences of losing the cooling system are known to us from Chernobyl, but here such an accident would harm us up to 50 times harder, according to a report from Norwegian Radiation Protection Autorithy. This will have enormous consequences for Norwegian farming, fishing and aquaculture industry, not to forget the increase of cancer amongst children and adults.
Neptune Network run the campaign stopsellafield.com, and declares that this case will be among the highest priority cases for years to come. All means from the campaign stopsellafield.com will be used to increase international awareness through information and demonstrations.
Our goal is clear:
1. Secure all nuclear waste at Sellafield for later to shut down the site
2. Make all nuclear power stations take care of their own waste and prevent them from delivering it to Sellafield
